A woman indicted by a federal grand jury is on Thursday is accused of assaulting Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers while they arrested her earlier this month in State College.
Hua Zhen Dong, a citizen of the Republic of China, had an immigration warrant for her arrest and was found to be in State College on July 9, according to U.S. Attorney Brian D. Miller.
While being taken into custody, Dong “refused to comply with the officers’ investigation and kicked, bit and scratched them as she resisted arrest,” Miller said in a statement.
The statement and the indictment do not detail the extent of any injuries.
Dong is charged with three counts of assaulting, resisting or impeding federal officers. The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations.
A person with the same name was among five State College restaurant owners charged in 2015 with employing undocumented workers and fraud. Hua Zhen Dong, the owner of Penang Asian Fusion, pleaded guilty to one count of harboring and concealing unauthorized immigrants and was sentenced to two years probation.
